Meet Lost Canyon Imports
Culture. Heritage. Tradition.
Our goal is to support traditional cultures, and the communities they call home.
Every piece we bring in is designed and handmade by traditional artisans from quality, locally-sourced materials.
I seek out traditional artisans in developing countries, particularly ones whose art is at risk of dying out, and I bring their work to the US for sale. I also document the culture and history associated with each craft and make videos of the production process. These include: Mopa mopa - A 1000 year old Andean tradition of decorating wood carvings with the resin of the mopa mopa tree in a technique a bit like mosaic work. Tamo de Pasto - laying down fine strands of straw to make colorful patterns on woodwork Traditional masks from Sibundoy - Ancestral masks carved from wood and decorated with colorful beads from the Kamsa people of the Sibundoy valley Silver filigree jewelry - Hand made filigree work from Mompox Palm mats - traditional woven palm mats for tables and floors from Chimichagua.
A lot of these crafts don't have western equivalents.
